Companions for our senior clients.

The Companion is a non-licensed member of the home care team who provides non-medical care to the client in their residence.

Essential Functions

• To provide companionship and mental stimulation for the client.
• To assist with light housekeeping and organizing.
• To follow HIPAA guidelines regarding all clients.

Responsibility of a Companion

* To provide stimulation and companionship for the client: + Reading + Walks + Conversation + Games + Accompanying the client to appointments or on errands * Assist in planning and preparing meals and snacks according to specific dietary requirements as outlined in the client’s care plan. If necessary, the Companion will help with client feedings.

* Observe and report on any changes to the following: + Client’s physical behavior + Client’s mental behavior + Potentially unsafe environment changes * Maintain continuity of client care by documenting and communicating with the care team.

* Participate in in-services and training as required.

Skills/Qualifications

Independence, flexibility, good judgment, strong verbal and written communication, physiological knowledge, nutrition, ability to maintain a good client relationship, listening skills, time management, and thoroughness

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Characteristics

Flexible, organized, efficient, easy to talk to.

Education/Skills Requirements

* Negative TB test.

* Clean background check

* Physical ability to perform duties of the position.

* General nutrition knowledge necessary for meal planning.

* Good oral and written communication skills.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* Bending, stooping, walking, and general physical demands of light housekeeping. * May require some lifting. * May require longer periods of sitting.
