PCA Personal Care Assistant/CNA (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)

Summary

Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) assist residents who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need scheduled assistance. The Personal Care Assistant’s role is to assist resident with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of serving senior adults. Personal Care Assistants report to the Health Service Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)

Provides assistance with:

• Dressing and undressing (clothing should be clean and appropriate for the season)
• Bathing
• Personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail and hair care)
• Assist with ambulation and mobility devices (cane, walker, wheelchair and crutches)
• Care and help of devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living

: Provides assistance with:

• Telephone (assist with calls, hearing and adaptive devices)
• Housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash, washing dishes, cleaning bathroom, bed making and bed changes (if housekeeping is not available)
• Laundry, if housekeeping is not available
• Assist residents with arrangements for transportation

Medication Assistance

* Assist residents with self-administration of medications, including monitoring of medication supplies and documentation following state guidelines

Health Maintenance and Monitoring Tasks

• Observe and report changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotion status to the Health Service Director, as needed
• Monitors for environmental safety hazards (such as chemical, physical, mechanical, biological)
• Records and reports incidents, errors and accidents

Dining

• Escort residents to and from dining room
• Assist in a variety of tasks such as delivering resident’s food and other special needs
