Job Description
In Home Caregiver (Floating)
Home Helpers of North Dakota is the Minot office of Home Helpers Home Care, a brand that has served families since 1997. We are locally owned, our owners live in Minot, and we are hiring a full-time on-call floating caregiver to cover last-minute shift openings Friday evenings through Monday mornings. A CNA license, 3 years of experience, and previous experience with gait belts and Hoyer lifts is required for this position. Specialized knowledge or experience with clients who have dementia, diabetes, MS, Parkinsons, and/or TBI is preferred. There is no fixed client list.
We pay you to train and confirm all certifications before entering a client’s home. You will be required to complete our training program.
What you get
- Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO medical insurance. We pay 80% of your premium.
- Dental and vision insurance. We pay 100% of your premium.
- Together, that is more than $400 a month we pay for every full-time caregiver, worth more than $2 an hour on top of your wage.
- Insurance starts once you are full-time: eight weeks at 32 or more hours a week.
- 401(k) retirement plan with company match after 90 days.
- Paid time off.
- Paid orientation and paid training, in person, before your first shift.
- $100 referral bonus when a caregiver you refer stays 90 days. $150 additional referral bonus when the same caregiver stays 180 days.
- Your days on call are fixed. You will be on call either Friday evenings starting at 4 PM through Saturday at 11:59 PM or Sunday starting at 12 AM through Monday morning at 8 AM. The time and length of your client shifts are not fixed. You will have rotating clients based on the shift that needs to be covered.
- You are paid minimum wage when on call but not filling a shift. You receive caregiver wages when filling a shift. You are not paid for on call and shift work at the same time. You are guaranteed 32 hours (full-time) of on call time each week.
- Office staff who answer the phone 24 hours a day.
Pay
$18.00 to $22.00
What you commit to
- Know the client roster and be trained for all client conditions. You will agree to work with any client and be familiar with their care plans.
- During the availability window, answer every call or text from the office within 15 minutes and accept the shift. Failing to respond after 15 minutes, refusing to see a client, and attempting to swap with another caregiver will count as declining the shift.
- Be reliable and ready to leave within 15 minutes of a call. Be dressed, have a charged phone, your car fueled and ready to carry a client.
- Be proactive about your schedule. Check Wellsky for shifts assigned more than 24 hours in advance. Notify office staff immediately if you have a change in your availability due to illness.
What you will do
- Help clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and moving safely around their home.
- Accurately document client care activities and maintain client appointment calendar.
- Monitor and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration) to ensure client stability.
- Prepare meals, do light housekeeping and laundry.
- Give medication reminders (or administer medication) and help clients keep their routine.
- Drive clients to appointments and errands. Mileage is reimbursed.
- Keep clients company, notice when something changes, and report changes or discrepancies in a care plan to the office.
- Intake new clients when a regular caregiver has not been assigned.
- Give caregivers additional in-home training when not on a client shift.
- Clock in and out at each visit with our Wellsky phone app.
What we need from you
- 21 or older and eligible to work in the United States.
- A caring, dependable nature. You show up when the client expects you.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and auto insurance.
- Able to pass a background check and driving-record check.
- Able to help clients stand, walk and transfer.
- CNA license and 3 years of experience. We provide additional training you need to meet any client’s needs.
