Memory Care Program - Activities Director

Position Summary

The Life Engagement Director is responsible for creating a vibrant, meaningful, and person-centered engagement program that enhances the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and spiritual well-being of residents. This position develops and implements daily activities that promote purpose, dignity, independence, and joy while meeting the unique needs of both assisted living and memory care residents.

Essential ResponsibilitiesResident Engagement

• Develop and maintain a monthly activity calendar with programs offered seven days a week.
• Provide individual and group engagement opportunities.
• Create programs that support cognitive stimulation, physical wellness, creativity, and socialization.
• Adapt activities for residents with dementia using person-centered approaches.
• Encourage resident participation while respecting individual preferences and abilities.
• Complete resident interest assessments upon admission and update them as needed.
• Incorporate residents’ life stories, hobbies, and past occupations into programming.

Program Development

• Plan and lead:
• Exercise and movement classes
• Music and sing-alongs
• Arts and crafts
• Gardening
• Games and trivia
• Community outings
• Holiday celebrations
• Educational programs
• Intergenerational activities
• Volunteer programs
• Spiritual opportunities

Memory Care Programming

• Implement structured daily routines.
• Utilize reminiscence therapy.
• Promote sensory experiences.
• Encourage purposeful tasks and household roles.
• Reduce behaviors through meaningful engagement.
• Collaborate with the care team to support individualized dementia care.

Family & Community Relations

• Welcome family participation in activities.
• Coordinate volunteers and entertainers.
• Build relationships with schools, churches, civic groups, and community organizations.
• Communicate upcoming events through newsletters and calendars.
